Electronic Music Subgenres in Blind Dates With Deities
Updated: Sep 19
Electronic music has never been one single sound. It stretches across countless moods, structures, tempos, and production styles, which is part of what makes the genre so endlessly interesting to me. When I created Blind Dates With Deities, I wanted the album to reflect that range rather than stay locked into one narrow lane.
Across its 15 tracks, the album moves through several electronic music subgenres, including multiple styles of house music like melodic house, progressive house, and instrumental trance-inspired house, festival-oriented EDM songs, techno-inspired sounds, cinematic electronica, orchestral electronic music, and more.
Most tracks are built for the dance floor. Others are darker, slower, or more introspective, and a few sit somewhere in between.
Here is a track-by-track look at the electronic music subgenres and influences that shape Blind Dates With Deities.

Pools of Fire
The album begins with Pools of Fire, a vocal-driven electronic track rooted heavily in trance and melodic EDM. It was designed to feel uplifting, euphoric, and atmospheric while immediately introducing the melodic side of the album. Oddly enough, it still retains a chill, sultry vibe during its non-drop passages.
The track combines strong vocal elements with energetic electronic production, making it one of the clearer examples of the trance influence that appears throughout the project. Particularly in its melody.
Celeste
Celeste moves further into high-energy vocal trance. The track combines energetic vocals with synthesized melodies, a bass-driven groove, and a brighter, more euphoric atmosphere.
It leans heavily into the classic relationship between melody and propulsion that originally drew me toward trance music, while still carrying a modern electronic production style.
Semper Vigilans
Semper Vigilans shifts the album into darker territory. Cinematic tension, gritty melodies, and atmospheric sound design are supported by a pulsing electronic rhythm.
The song combines elements of cinematic electronica, dark electronic music, and dance-oriented production. It was heavily influenced by the kind of world-building you might hear in film or video game music, but with enough rhythmic movement to keep one foot on the dance floor.
Embracing Purgatory
If Semper Vigilans opens the door to the darker side of the album, Embracing Purgatory walks straight through it.
This track combines trance and techno-inspired sounds with sinister chants, a dense synth melody, and an energetic rhythmic foundation. The result is atmospheric and aggressive without abandoning melody.
Desolating Love
Desolating Love explores a more emotional side of electronic dance music.
Built around themes of longing and sorrow, the song pairs somber vocals with an expressive lead synth and a soaring buildup. Its foundation still contains trance and melodic EDM elements, but the mood is intentionally darker and more melancholy than the album’s brighter dance tracks.
Heavenly Debate
With Heavenly Debate, the album moves back toward a more relaxed and progressive atmosphere.
Driving rhythms sit underneath groovy electronic piano melodies and euphoric textures, creating a balance between movement and serenity. It fits comfortably within melodic EDM and progressive electronic music while maintaining the atmospheric identity found throughout the album.
Daemon
Daemon is one of the biggest departures from conventional dance music on the album.
Rather than focusing primarily on a club groove, the track is an orchestral-electronic hybrid built around cinematic storytelling. It combines electronic production with orchestral textures, tension, melody, and atmosphere.
You probably are not putting this one at the center of your next peak-hour DJ set. But as an example of how broad electronic music can be, it represents an important part of the album.

Neon Revelry
Then comes Neon Revelry, which swings the pendulum completely back toward the dance floor.
This is one of the album’s most euphoric and energetic tracks, combining soaring vocals, melodic hooks, and a peak-hour festival-style groove. Its sound sits between vocal trance, melodic EDM, and festival-oriented electronic music.
It is intentionally bright, immediate, and energetic.
The Dawn Before Battle
The Dawn Before Battle combines electronic music with cinematic fantasy influences.
Rich bass, soaring melodies, atmospheric textures, and heroic vocal elements create something that feels equally inspired by dance music and a fantasy soundtrack. Trance remains part of the foundation, but the cinematic and orchestral elements are just as important to the overall character of the track.
Crowned In Ruins
Crowned In Ruins returns to darker electronic territory, blending trance and techno-inspired melodies and harmonies with a deeper groove.
Cinematic tension and heavier textures give the track a sense of scale and drama. The idea behind it was essentially to imagine what a kingdom celebrating the defeat of a dictator might sound like if the celebration happened through electronic music.
3ntangled
3ntangled is built around seduction, movement, and melody.
Angelic vocal passages meet a melodic bassline and a peak-hour synth melody, giving the song a hypnotic but energetic feel. Stylistically, it sits primarily within vocal trance, progressive house, and melodic EDM, with a strong emphasis on rhythm and atmosphere.
Midnight Gambit
Midnight Gambit is one of the more unusual tracks on Blind Dates With Deities.
Rather than following a traditional trance or EDM structure, it blends introspective electronic production with acoustic guitar passages and soothing male vocals. The result is deeper, more cinematic, and more reflective.
It is a track designed less for peak-hour energy and more for long drives, late nights, and quiet contemplation.
Approaching Divinity
Approaching Divinity begins the album’s final ascent.
This instrumental track combines an inspirational synth-driven melody with a subtle techno and trance-influenced groove. Its atmosphere is euphoric and uplifting, while the production gradually builds toward something larger and more transcendent.
This track represents the progressive, uplifting, and melodic side of the album particularly well.
Blind Dates With Deities
The title track brings many of the album’s different ideas together.
Blind Dates With Deities combines progressive electronic music, trance, melodic EDM, cinematic textures, orchestral elements, chants, gritty harmonic passages, and large-scale synth melodies.
It was designed to feel like the culmination of the journey: grand, atmospheric, rhythmic, melodic, and cinematic all at once.
Blind Dates With Deities (Club Mix)
Blind Dates With Deities (Club Mix) carries many of the same sounds, melodies, and tonal qualities as the original title track, but reshapes them for a more dance-floor-focused format.
The arrangement is condensed to create a shorter runtime better suited for a club environment, while additional rhythmic elements create greater continuity throughout the track. The energy curve is also different, emphasizing forward motion and maintaining momentum more consistently from beginning to end.
It is essentially another interpretation of the same musical world, redesigned with the dance floor in mind.

One Album, Many Electronic Music Subgenres
One of the things I enjoy most about electronic music is that there is no requirement to remain inside a single box. Blind Dates With Deities reflects that philosophy throughout its 15 tracks.
The album moves between vocal trance, progressive electronic music, melodic EDM, techno-influenced production, cinematic electronica, orchestral music, darker atmospheric tracks, and more introspective material.
If these are the types of electronic music subgenres you naturally gravitate toward, feel free to swing by Spotify and check out Blind Dates With Deities.
The album covers a wide spectrum of sound not only from a subgenre standpoint, but also through an eclectic mix of vocals, instrumentals, light tracks, dark tracks, dance music, introspective electronica, cinematic moments, and everything in between.
